October 29-30, in the Kherson High School Physical Education held four international artistic gymnastics tournament in memory of the honored master of sports of Ukraine Alexander Beresh.
This sporting event was supported by the Kherson Charitable Foundation of Ustin Maltsev, Regional Charitable Foundation named by Alexander Beresh, the governor of Kherson oblast Nikolai Kostyuk and Kherson Mayor Volodymyr Saldo.
Ustin Maltsev was very excited about the tournament:
- Firstly, we keep the memory and history of the outstanding Ukrainian, outstanding Khersons. This is like a mascot for our city! And secondly, the fact that every year not only athletes from all over Ukraine, but also athletes from near and far abroad come to Kherson. Today, we see not only athletes, but outstanding Ukrainian and international champions in gymnastics, Olympic champions! This is very good! It promotes a healthy lifestyle, which, unfortunately, not enough in our society...
At the tournament as guests of honor were invited to the Olympic Games champion in Artistic gymnastics Liliya Podkopayeva, Olympic medalist, world champions in gymnastics Alexander Svetlichnyi, Bogdan Makuts, Olympic medalist in boat racing Gurkovsky Paul, and others.
At the closing of the tournament guests pleased with the tasty: was made chocolate half-meter Olympic pie. The initiative of making a cake in the form of the Olympic emblem belongs to a former athlete, a wrestler and now a businessman, owner of the cafe "Exclusive" Gennady Efimenko.
Alexander Beresh, two time’s Olympic medalist and undisputed champion of Europe, died seven years ago in a car accident. Svetlana Beresh, organizer of the tournament in memory of Alexander commented:
- If a person has a memory of a close people, who isn’t with us now- that he has a future. If a person has no memory, it does not have any past or present. I try to do so that my friends and relatives were always have the future. Therefore, the bright memory of Sasha I was carrying, carry, and I will carry with pride.
