According to the Old Russian tradition, a person who wishes to gain a great health, on the Christening Day should bathe in the sanctified body of water. In addition, the full year it will be accompanied by God's mercy and grace. Earlier in the hole plunged, especially those who participated in the Christmas mummers and divination - to wash away their sins. It was also believed that in Jordan (hole in the water in shape of a cross) go away evil spirits. Consecrated in Christening Day water is considered curative.
This tradition have accompanied by the Christian people for thousands years. And January 19, 2012, after a church liturgy at St. Kasperovskiy temple to the river Dnieper moved a column of laity. The course was headed by the priest Ivan Gordienko. After a short prayer, Father Ivan threw the cross into the water. According to tradition, person, who gets it from the water, will stay the whole year under the protection of God. People, who had a desire to plunge three times into the water with a head, were many. And those, who are afraid of cold water, Father Ivan sprinkled with holy water.
At this year on Christening Day was good weather: it was sunny, windless, light frost pinched cheeks. Charity Fund of Ustin Maltsev warms everyone on this frosty day, because was organized a charity action: anyone could drink tea and eat crackers at the Gidropark beach in Kherson.This is the third charity event at the Twelfth Day. Ustin Maltsev, as an inveterate winter swimmer, who dives into the water for 12 years, expressed his attitude to this religious holiday:
- I want that all people in Kherson took part in it, because it is faith, spirituality, and we must develop it. Most importantly - instill this tradition for children!
This year, a lot of young people come to bath in holy water. This suggests that the ancient folk traditions are respected and they will live in our hearts and souls forever.
